Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Sprout Media Limited (“Flickbooks”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use the Flickbooks mobile app (the “App”). Flickbooks lets you create custom photo books from photos on your device and order them printed and shipped to you. This Policy tells you what we do with your data — it is not a contract.
1. Who we are (data controller)
Sprout Media Limited (registered in Ireland, company no. 525040), Suite 16, The Mall, Beacon Court, Sandyford, Dublin 18, Ireland, is the data controller for your personal data. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, contact us at flickbooks.app@gmail.com or +353 89 222 7759.
2. Summary — what we collect and why
| Category | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account data | Your email address, or your Apple/Google sign-in identity | To create and secure your account |
| Photos you choose | Photos you select from your device to place in a book; the print-ready PDF of your book | To build, back up, and print your photo books |
| Photo location metadata | GPS coordinates stored inside your photos (EXIF) | To show your photos on a map, so you can tap a place to find and pick the pictures taken there |
| Order & shipping data | Name, shipping address, email, phone number, order history | To fulfil and ship your order and provide support |
| Payment data | Handled by our payment processor; we do not receive or store your card number | To take payment |
| Device & notification data | Push notification token, device platform (iOS/Android) | To send you order-status updates |
| Product survey answers | Onboarding answers you complete when creating your account (how you heard about us, gender, age bracket, purpose) | To understand and improve the product |
| Anonymous usage data | A random device ID and the furthest onboarding step reached | To measure where people drop off during setup |
| Feedback | The message you send us and the category you pick (Report a bug, Request a feature, Need help, or General feedback) | To respond and improve |
We do not use third-party advertising, ad-tracking, or cross-app tracking. We do not sell your personal data. We do not use the IDFA or App Tracking Transparency.
3. Photos and your photo library
- When you build a book, you select photos from your device's photo library. We request photo-library permission for this.
- Only the photos you actually place into a book are uploaded to our secure cloud storage as a backup, so your designs survive reinstalling the app or switching devices. Photos you select or import but do not place are not uploaded.
- Uploaded photos are downscaled before upload and stored in a private storage bucket that only your account can access. They are shown back to you through short-lived, expiring links.
- When you remove a photo from a book, its cloud copy is deleted.
- We read the location data saved inside your photos (EXIF GPS) to show them on a map, so you can tap a place on the map to find and pick the photos taken there. This is read from the photo file only — the App never tracks your live or real-time device location.
- We request camera permission for optionally taking photos to include in books.
4. How we use your information
- Create, authenticate, and secure your account.
- Build, save, and back up your photo book designs.
- Render your book into a print-ready PDF and place your print order.
- Process payment and issue refunds where applicable.
- Ship your order and keep you updated on its status.
- Send you transactional emails (order confirmation, cancellation/refund).
- Send push notifications about your order status (only if you allow notifications; you can mute these — see section 8).
- Respond to your feedback and provide support.
- Understand onboarding drop-off and improve the product.
We do not use your data for third-party advertising or profiling.
5. Legal bases for processing
As an Irish company, we process your personal data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018. If you use Flickbooks in the UK, the UK GDPR applies to your data on the same basis. Depending on what we are doing, we rely on one of these legal bases:
- Contract — to create your account, build your books, take payment, and fulfil and ship your orders.
- Legitimate interests — to secure the App, prevent fraud, provide support, and improve the product (including anonymous onboarding analytics).
- Consent — for photo-library, camera, and location (photo-EXIF) access, and for push notifications. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device settings.
- Legal obligation — to keep records (e.g. transaction/tax records) as required by law.
6. Who we share data with (categories of recipient)
We share only the data each provider needs to do its job. We do not sell your data. We use a small number of carefully selected service providers, in these categories:
| Recipient category | What they receive | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud backend & hosting provider | Account data, book designs, uploaded photos, orders, feedback | Authentication, database, file storage, server functions |
| Payment processor | Card details (entered directly into their secure payment sheet), billing name and email | Payment processing and refunds |
| Print & fulfilment partner | Your shipping address, an account reference ID, and expiring links to your print-ready book PDF | To print your book and ship it to you |
| Push-notification provider | Your device push token and the notification text | To deliver order-status notifications |
| Email delivery provider | Your email address and the email content | To send transactional order emails |
| Sign-in providers | Your sign-in identity token (only if you use social sign-in) | To authenticate you |
| Address-autocomplete provider | The address text you type into the address field | Address suggestions |
A current list of the specific companies we use as sub-processors is available on request — contact us at flickbooks.app@gmail.com.
Each provider processes your data under its own privacy policy and only on our instructions. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a business transfer (e.g. a merger or acquisition).
7. Where your data is stored, and international transfers
Your account data, book designs, photos, and orders are held by our cloud backend & hosting provider; payment data is held by our payment processor; and print files and shipping details are sent to our print & fulfilment partner. Some of our providers process data outside the European Economic Area (for example, in the United States). Where they do, those transfers are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses and/or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, where applicable.
8. Push notifications
We only send push notifications about the status of your orders (e.g. “being printed”, “shipped”, “delivered”, “cancelled”). We do notsend marketing or promotional push notifications. You can turn order notifications off inside the App's settings, or disable notifications entirely in your device settings. When you sign out, your device's push token is removed.
9. Data stored on your device
Some data is kept only on your device (in local storage) and is not sent to our servers, including: a saved shipping address for faster checkout, your notification preference, in-progress onboarding state, and caches of photo locations and design assets. Clearing the app's data or uninstalling removes these.
10. Cookies and the website
Flickbooks is available both as a mobile app and as a website at flickbooks.app. The App itself does not use advertising or tracking cookies. The public website uses only strictly necessary cookies — currently just the authentication cookies needed to keep you signed in to a private account area — and no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies; web fonts are self-hosted. Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from consent under the Irish ePrivacy Regulations (S.I. 336 of 2011), so no cookie banner is required. If we introduce any non-essential cookies or analytics in future, we will request your consent through a cookie banner and update this Policy.
11. Children
Flickbooks is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 years old (the digital age of consent in Ireland) to use the App. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under this age. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us at flickbooks.app@gmail.com and we will delete it.
The App asks for a self-reported age bracket during onboarding but does not verify age.
12. How long we keep your data
- Account, book designs, and uploaded photos — for as long as your account is active. We do not automatically delete inactive accounts; your data stays until you delete a book, or delete your account. Delete a book to remove its cloud photos; delete your account to remove your account data (see section 13).
- Print-ready PDFs — the print file created for an order is stored only temporarily and is automatically deleted 10 days after the order is placed.
- Orders and transaction records — retained as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal, accounting, and tax obligations. Under Irish law we (and our payment processor) keep records of completed transactions for at least 6 years.
- Anonymous onboarding analytics — not linked to your identity; retained in aggregate.
13. Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your account at any time in the App: go to Settings and tap “Delete account”, then confirm. This immediately and irreversibly erases your data from our systems — your account, book designs, uploaded photos, order history, notification tokens, and any feedback you sent. Records of completed purchases may still be held by our payment processor and in our accounting records where we are required to keep them for tax and legal purposes.
14. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export (port), or restrict the use of your personal data, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can:
- Update your email and saved shipping address in the App.
- Turn off order notifications in the App.
- Delete your account and its data in the App (see section 13), or ask us to do so by contacting flickbooks.app@gmail.com.
We will respond to rights requests within the timeframe required by law.
15. International users and supervisory authorities
Flickbooks is available in a limited set of countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and other EU/EEA countries, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
- If you are in the EU or EEA, your data is protected under the EU GDPR, and you may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority or with the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), our lead authority (dataprotection.ie).
- If you are in the United Kingdom, UK GDPR applies and you may complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
- If you are a California resident, we do not “sell” or “share” your personal information as defined under California law, and you may exercise your rights by contacting us at flickbooks.app@gmail.com.
- If you are elsewhere (including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, or South Africa), you have the rights granted by your local data-protection law, and you can exercise them by contacting us at flickbooks.app@gmail.com.
16. Automated decision-making
We do not carry out solely automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning you.
17. Security
Your data is protected by access controls (each user can only access their own data), private storage buckets, expiring signed links to your files, encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), and payment handling delegated to our payment processor so we never store your card number. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
18. Data breaches
In the event of a personal-data breach that is likely to affect you, we will notify the Irish Data Protection Commission and, where legally required, the affected users, within the timeframes set by law.
19. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will change the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, notify you in the App.
